Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod to hold training exercise near Martha’s Vineyard

April 26, 2016

BOSTON — Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod is scheduled to conduct an extensive mishap response drill Wednesday south of Martha's Vineyard.

The closed training will consist of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters working in conjunction with Sector Southeastern New England and the First District command center to search for a simulated downed aircraft.

This exercise will allow personnel at all involved units to implement the Coast Guard's Mishap Response Plan, which is usually reserved for emergencies, in a controlled environment.  Once the drill is complete, a debrief will be conducted to share best practices and lessons learned among all participating Coast Guard entities.

This training exercise is subject to cancellation due to weather and aircraft maintenance on the morning of the event.  Media interested in more details about the exercise can contact the Air Station Cape Cod public affairs office at 508-968-6317 or the operations duty officer at 508-968-6360.

2016 marks 100 years of Coast Guard aviation. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod is home to four MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters and three HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft.
