Coast Guard to participate in Sault Ste Marie law enforcement exercise

September 7, 2016

SAULT STE MARIE, Michigan – The U.S. Coast Guard along with personnel from more than 40 partner agencies will come together in the Sault Ste Marie area Thursday to participate in a full-scale law enforcement exercise.

Community members may notice an increase in law enforcement activity along the St. Marys River, Lake Superior State University, International Bridge, CN Rail Yard, Carbide Dock and the Harvey Marina.

Exercise activities will be limited to specific areas and should not significantly impact marine or vehicle traffic.

The primary focus of the exercise is to validate existing response plans and policies triggered by a significant security incident in the local area.

The opportunity to practice homeland security capabilities in a realistic exercise is critical in ensuring that the Coast Guard remains Semper Paratus, Always Ready.

Questions regarding the exercise can be directed to James Snyder at 906-635-3303.
