Cutter Dauntless crew returns home just in time for Christmas

December 22, 2015

GALVESTON, Texas — The crew aboard Coast Guard Cutter Dauntless came into port in time for Christmas Tuesday morning after a 52-day training and law enforcement patrol in the Gulf of Mexico.

While underway, the crew attended the biannual Tailored Ship’s Training Availability in Mayport, Florida, where their efficiency at completing Coast Guard wartime missions was put to the test. They passed all drills and exercises with exceedingly high scores before the three week training period expired, returning to patrol earlier than expected.

The Dauntless crew continued their training missions by working with Coast Guard assets from sectors and air and small boat stations across the gulf. Several days of helicopter operations resulted in the certification of two air stations and three pilots as capable of landing onto a cutter. This is critical to the Coast Guard maintaining world-wide deployability.

They also conducted law enforcement missions which included six boardings where several citations were issued for safety violations which could have put the crews of those boats in danger.

Coast Guard Cutter Dauntless, a 210-foot medium endurance cutter, is homeported at Sector Field Office Galveston. For all questions, please contact the public affairs officer, Ensign Julia Mundy, at Julia.I.Mundy@uscg.mil or by calling the cutter at (409) 766-4766.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
