EUREKA, Calif. — The Coast Guard established a safety zone in the navigable waters of the Noyo River Channel, Humboldt Bay and Crescent City Harbor entrances Saturday to promote the navigational safety of all vessels along the coast when extreme environmental conditions are present, which will extend through March 31.  The safety zone prohibits vessels from transiting the affected areas during extreme environmental conditions, which is described as 20-foot breaking seas or as the Captain of the Port deems the area as unsafe for vessel transit.... NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard towed a disabled vessel to shore that was taking on water in Terrebonne Bay, Louisiana, Thursday. At approximately 11:05 p.m. a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle completed the tow of a disabled 43-foot sailing vessel from Terrebonne Bay to Port Fourchon, Louisiana. NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is towing a vessel that was taking on water in Terrebonne Bay, Louisiana, Thursday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 3:02 p.m. from the crew of a 43-foot sailing vessel that their vessel was disabled and taking on water in Terrebonne Bay. Sector New Orleans watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle to assist the vessel.... NEW ORLEANS – The cargo vessel Alliance St. Louis is in tow by a commercial salvage company, Wednesday, after suffering an engine room fire approximately 150 miles south of Southwest Pass.  The tug Crosby Endeavor arrived on scene at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, with a fire team aboard to clear the Alliance St Louis’ engine room for safety. WASHINGTON — An Astoria, Oregon-based Coast Guardsman died Monday at Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown in Virginia. Lt. j.g. Devin J. Hepner, 34, of Logan, Utah, was found unresponsive in his barracks room Monday morning and was transported by local emergency medical services to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he later died.
