MIAMI — The Coast Guard suspended their search at 5:44 p.m. Friday for a man who fell overboard from the Independence of the Seas cruise ship.
Nathaniel Skokan, 22, was reportedly seen going overboard from the 12th deck Thursday.
"We want to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Skokan" said Chris Eddy, search and rescue technical specialist at the Coast Guard 7th District. "The decision to suspend a search is never easy, and it is made with great care and consideration."... [Read More]

WARRENTON, Ore. — The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 27-year-old male who was swept out to sea near Cape Perpetua, Ore., Thursday.Coast Guard helicopter and boat crews searched for more than 15 hours alongside Oregon State Police and Yachats Fire departments.Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend received the report via 911 dispatch stating that the man had fallen in the water and that he was not in sight.... LOS ANGELES - The Coast Guard warns boaters of a severe weather warning including a small craft and high surf advisory issued by NOAA.The small craft advisory is for the east Santa Barbara Channel from Point Conception to Point Mugu, including Santa Cruz Island and inner waters from Point Mugu to San Mateo Point, including Santa Catalina and Anacapa Islands. The small craft advisory will remain in effect from 3 p.m., Friday until 3 a.m., Sunday.A small craft advisory means that hazardous wind and sea conditions will exist for small craft and inexperienced mariners.... BOSTON — U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba returned home Friday after a 65-day patrol in the North Atlantic.
The 100-member crew was tasked with enforcing federal and international fishery laws as well as conducting homeland security operations.
The crew of the Escanaba conducted 61 living marine resource boardings ensuring the sustainability of resources in the North Atlantic. They also coordinated with Station Southwest Harbor and Maine Marine Patrol to conduct safety operations among the northeast lobster fleet.... [Read More]

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced a 36-year-old woman from the cruise ship Norwegian Dawn 110 miles south of Southwest Pass, Louisiana, Thursday.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report at 3:20 p.m. that a cruise ship crewmember, Shirlee Magsino, had been suffering from abdominal pain.

LOS ANGELES − The Coast Guard assisted a vessel in distress approximately 23 miles off Catalina Island, Wednesday. The Coast Guard received a call via VHF radio ch 16 at 10 p.m., Wednesday, from a 37-foot sailing vessel, with two individuals aboard, reporting that the vessel was disabled due to a broken sailing boom. ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — The Coast Guard hoisted two men and one woman Thursday from a motor yacht in the Ocracoke Inlet.
Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington were notified at approximately 5:40 p.m. that the 54-foot yacht Crystal Ball had ran aground in Ocracoke Inlet and was taking on water.
Both an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City and a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Hatteras Inlet responded at approximately 5:45 p.m. ... [Read More]

MILWAUKEE — The Coast Guard is urging people to use extreme caution on and near waterways ahead of warmer temperatures that are forecast to return beginning this weekend.
The above-freezing temperatures could pose safety concerns throughout Lake Michigan and inland rivers, streams and ponds that have become frozen during the past few weeks.

The Coast Guard medevaced a 46-year-old man from the motor vessel E. R. Calais near Port Sulphur, Louisiana, Thursday.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report at 3:25 a.m. that Cesar Matutina had sustained a hand injury aboard the motor vessel.
Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Station Venice Response Boat-Medium boatcrew at 3:31 a.m.
The boatcrew arrived on scene at 4:25 a.m. and transferred Matutina to Emergency Services in Venice, Louisiana. He was further transferred to Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.... [Read More]

MIAMI — The Coast Guard repatriated 136 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, since Saturday.
The Coast Guard Cutter Charles David Jr. crew repatriated 53 Cuban migrants Saturday and 83 Cuban migrants Monday.
These repatriations are a result of eight separate at-sea migrant interdictions in the South Florida Straits. In each instance, the Coast Guard helped secure the U.S. border and prevented these sea voyages from ending in tragedy.... [Read More]

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico –U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders combined efforts with two international maritime rescue coordination centers, and the motor tanker Orfea, Sunday and Monday, to rescue four French boaters in the Atlantic Ocean.
Rescued are three men and a woman who were transiting aboard the 50-foot French sailing vessel L’Almiral, from the Spanish Canary Island of Las Palmas to the Caribbean Island of St. Maarten, when a rudder blade failure rendered the vessel disabled in 16-foot seas and 40 knot winds, approximately 1,082 nautical miles east of Puerto Rico.... SEATTLE — The Coast Guard has received multiple reports from mariners that laser holiday lights are shining from waterfront residences and potentially affecting vessel operators’ vision.
