MOBILE, Ala. - The Coast Guard has mobilized resources and personnel to respond to people in distress and assess waterway impact from Hurricane Hermine.Aircraft, prepositioned out of harm's way prior to the storm, are on scene in western Florida and affected areas to conduct search-and-rescue operations and then assess the status of ports and waterways.The Coast Guard, coordinating with federal, state and local response partners, is taking reports and prioritizing initial response to protect life and property.Hermine is located approximately 35 miles north of Valdosta, Georgia.... SAN FRANCISCO — U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco responded Thursday to a mayday call from the 50-foot sport fishing vessel New Seeker. The call, received at approximately 4:30 p.m., reported that the vessel was taking on water in the vicinity of Kirby Cove near the Golden Gate Bridge.
Coast Guard Station Golden Gate and Marin County Fire Department immediately launched rescue boats and safely removed 13 passengers and two crewmembers from the vessel. One passenger was reported to have suffered a head laceration and was transferred to local EMS for treatment.... [Read More]

TAMPA, Fla. – The Coast Guard has set Port Condition ZULU for ports Tarpon Springs and north as gale-force winds from Hurricane Hermine threaten to impact the area within 12 hours.
Capt. Holly Najarian, Sector St. Petersburg Captain of the Port, established Port Condition ZULU which states all vessel movement shall cease, with the exception of harbor assist tug-boats.

HONOLULU — The Coast Guard rescued a 56-year-old man after his 24-foot fishing vessel capsized approximately 12 miles west of Kikiaola Harbor, Kauai, Thursday.
The man was safely hoisted into an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point and was transported to the airport at Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands, Kauai, where his family was waiting to pick him up.... [Read More]

HONOLULU — The Coast Guard Captain of the Port opened the Hawaii County ports Thursday morning and cargo operations have resumed.
Tropical Storm Madeline is expected to continue to move west and degrade. Vessel and facility operators are recommended to exercise caution when maneuvering in the ports as there may be fields of debris present.

NEW YORK - The Coast Guard will extend the opportunity for public comment on the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) titled "Anchorage Grounds, Hudson River; Yonkers, NY, to Kingston, NY, (81 FR 37168)."
The extension changes the initial comment deadline from Sept. 7, 2016 to Dec. 6, 2016.
Thus far, the ANPRM solicitation has been extremely successful and the Coast Guard has received nearly 2,400 comments on the subject from many diverse stakeholders. ... [Read More]

DETROIT — As the summer boating season comes to an unofficial end Labor Day weekend, the Coast Guard urges the boating public to remain vigilant while enjoying the Great Lakes during the offseason.
Between May 27, 2016, and Aug. 31, 2016, Coast Guard Sector Detroit personnel responded to 359 search and rescue cases, and during that time, 18 people died.
In the offseason from Oct. 1, 2015 to May 27, 2016, Coast Guard Sector Detroit recorded 13 boating-related deaths in Sector Detroit's area of responsibility. ... [Read More]
