MIAMI – The Coast Guard repatriated 161 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, since Monday. The Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo repatriated 66 Cuban migrants, Monday, the Coast Guard Cutter Raymond Evans repatriated 68 Cuban migrants Thursday, and another 27 Cuban migrants Friday. These repatriations are a result of 14 separate at-sea interdictions in the South Florida Straits. MIAMI – The Coast Guard established port readiness condition x-ray for the port of Key West effective at 10 a.m. Friday due to the expectation of sustained winds of 25 mph with wind gusts up to 40 mph. The port of Key West is currently open to all commercial traffic, and all transfer operations may continue while x-ray remains in effect.  ... [Read More]

MIAMI – The Coast Guard is encouraging boaters to prepare for severe weather due to a developing tropical wave, Invest 99L, which is expected to impact South Florida including the Florida Keys over the weekend.The National Hurricane Center reports the disturbance is favorable for tropical development, resulting in a minimum of heavy rains and gusty winds.  All boaters and beachgoers are strongly encouraged to monitor weather conditions as the depression is expected to develop into Tropical Storm Hermine.... CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. — The Coast Guard assisted four people after their boat became disabled in Chincoteague, Thursday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Chincoteague were notified of a disabled 22-foot pontoon boat, 200 yards from Station Chincoteague, with two men and two women aboard, at approximately 7:10 p.m. Station Chincoteague launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft - Shallow Water boat crew at approximately7:25 p.m. and arrived at 7:30 p.m.... A person aboard fishing vessel Tyler used a VHF radio to contact watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England’s command center at about 7:30 a.m. and reported their boat was rapidly taking on water with four people aboard. The hailer said they are using pumps, but are unable to keep up with the flooding.... [Read More]

WINCHESTER BAY, Ore. — A Coast Guard boat crew responded Thursday when a 21-foot pleasure craft capsized near the south jetty of Umpqua River with three people on board, including a 6-year-old boy who was reportedly unconscious. A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Umpqua River worked with a local rescue diver to recover all three passengers from the water and administered CPR to the boy until they transferred him to emergency medical services personnel waiting with an ambulance at the station. ... MIAMI – The Coast Guard set port condition whiskey for Port Miami, Miami River, Port Everglades, Port of Palm Beach, Port of Ft. Pierce and all other South Florida terminals and facilities at 4 p.m. Thursday due to the expectation sustained gale force winds generated by Invest 99L may arrive within 72 hours.  These ports and facilities are currently open to all commercial traffic and all transfer operations may continue while whiskey remains in effect.
