San Pedro, Calif. — Personnel at the 11th Coast Guard District have reopened the public comment period until August 15 for a proposal to amend the shape and reduce the size of the special anchorage area in Marina Del Rey Harbor. This action removes a portion of the anchorage area from a location where it could endanger vessel traffic. This Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking does not remove the anchorage, but proposes to clarify language in the note section of the existing regulation. ... [Read More]

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Lt. Cmdr. Lawrence F. Ahlin relieved Lt. Cmdr. Christopher A. White as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team San Francisco during a change of command ceremony on Coast Guard Island, Thursday. BOSTON — Rear Adm. Steven Poulin, First Coast Guard District commander, presided over the dedication of a new boat house Thursday morning at Coast Guard Sector Field Office Southwest Harbor. The new 2,800 square foot boathouse will provide personnel a place to perform maintenance on Coast Guard assets year-round, including during Maine’s harsh winter months. NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and other local agencies are searching for a person in the water on the Upper Mississippi River near mile marker 175, near Reidy Terminals, Thursday. The missing person is a 29-year-old male with blue eyes and is 5 feet 7 inches tall who was last seen 4:04 a.m. He reportedly fell off a kayak after hitting towlines between two barges. MIAMI — The Coast Guard is searching for two missing Cuban migrants who were reported missing Wednesday two miles east of Boca Raton. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Gannett rescued six Cuban migrants from the water.  The group was spotted by the cutter crew while transiting the area during a patrol.
