At approximately 2:00 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received report, from Suffolk County Dispatch, of a woman who entered the water near Kismet Beach and was in distress. HOUSTON — A family member of the missing man called Coast Guard search coordinators at 8:05 a.m. Monday, reporting she and other family members found his body in the water by the shore, near where he went missing in San Luis Pass. Missing was Stephen Espedal. Coast Guard crews searched throughout the night with other responders, but were unable to locate him. BEAUMONT, Texas — The Coast Guard Captain of the Port closed a section of the Neches River Saturday, after a pipeline at the Jefferson Energy Terminal released an estimated 880 gallons of Eagle Ford crude oil in the Neches River. The source of the leak has been secured. The Neches ship channel is closed to all vessel traffic and a Coast Guard safety zone has been established from the Kansas City Southern Railroad Bridge to just below the Enterprise docks and navigation light 46. HOUSTON — Flood levels and record setting water current coming from the San Jacinto River caused a closure of the Houston Ship Channel after 12 barges broke free Sunday. The Houston Ship Channel was closed to all traffic from light 111 to light 128 from 8:49 a.m. to 1:06 p.m. and was then open to ships, but restricted for barge traffic. At 3:45 p.m., the earlier restriction was lifted and barges began to be allowed to come inbound between light 125 and 131 with an assist tug.
