BALTIMORE — The Unified Command received results Monday from the first oil sample recovered from the water at Gravelly Point near Arlington, Virginia. The sample contains intermediate petroleum oil with characteristics most resembling those of moderate to severely weathered fuel oil. BALTIMORE — The Unified Command is scheduled to conduct a dye test Monday in the Potomac River and Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary near Arlington, Virginia, which may discolor portions of the river. As part of the ongoing investigation on the source of the oil sheen in the Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary and the Potomac River, the Coast Guard and Virginia Dept. of Environmental Quality will coordinate with the Arlington County Department of Environmental Services to conduct a dye test in the storm water conveyance system for the Roaches Run watershed.... MIAMI — Coast Guard crews have suspended their search efforts for two boaters reported missing in Lake Okeechobee, Florida, Sunday. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission located the airboat the Russ' were last seen with no one aboard and no longer requested Coast Guard assistance for the search. BALTIMORE — The Unified Command continues its response to oil sheens Sunday in the Potomac River near Arlington, Virginia. At approximately 11 a.m. investigators assessed Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary and identified an outfall actively sheening. MIAMI — Coast Guard crews are searching for two boaters reported missing in Lake Okeechobee, Florida, Sunday. John Russ, 72, and his wife Diane Russ, 62, last seen in an air boat in the lake. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received a request from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to assist with the search after a friend of the Russ' reported the couple failed to return from a boating trip. Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched an Air Station Clearwater MH-60 helicopter crew to search alongside the FWC.... [Read More]

LOS ANGELES – At 9:15 a.m. the Coast Guard has suspended active search efforts regarding the San Pedro aircraft incident that occurred in the late afternoon on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016. The Coast Guard had two 87-foot patrol boats, Cutters Narwahl and Blackfin, that conducted search patterns throughout the night until 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning. LOS ANGELES – The unified command is continuing the search effort concerning the aircraft incident off San Pedro. The search area has been expanded to include approximately 200 sq. miles. Several assets have been deployed to assist in the area including the Coast Guard Cutter Blackfin and Coast Guard Cutter Narwahl. Baywatch Cabrillo and Long Beach Fire will remain onscene to assist.
