BALTIMORE — Coast Guard Sector Baltimore lifted the temporary safety zone restrictions Sunday for the navigable waters within the Baltimore captain of the port zone following winter storm Jonas. The navigable waters of the Baltimore COTP zone are open for all vessel traffic. The safety zone was put in place Saturday to protect personnel, vessels and the marine environment from potential hazards on navigable waters caused by winter storm Jonas. ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — The U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search Sunday for a man on the waters near Hatteras Island. Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders received a report Saturday at 11 p.m. from a good Samaritan of a 40-year-old man overdue from Frisco.  A Coast Guard 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew launched from Station Hatteras Inlet to search for the man. LOS ANGELES – Coast Guard crews rescued two individuals from a boat fire 7 miles off Port of Los Angeles entrance at 7:10 p.m., Saturday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received notification of a 42-foot sailing vessel on fire and a sighting of two red flares at approximately 7 p.m., from the tugboat El Lobo Grande, transiting between Catalina Island and the Port of Los Angeles.... BALTIMORE — Coast Guard Sector Baltimore established a temporary safety zone Saturday for navigable waterways within the Baltimore captain of the port zone. The safety zone is to protect personnel, vessels and the marine environment from potential hazards on navigable waters caused by winter storm Jonas. Entry of vessels or persons into this zone is prohibited unless specifically authorized by the COTP of Baltimore until 10 a.m. Thursday. A combination of significant shoaling, elevated surf and strong currents are occurring inside and around the harbor due to the effects of several severe weather systems moving through the area. PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The U.S. Coast Guard, along with federal, state and local agencies are responding Friday to a fuel tank leak at the Kinder Morgan South Hill facility in Chesapeake.  Kinder Morgan made a National Response Center report at 7:18 a.m. Friday stating one of the facility's fuel tanks was leaking.  The tank held 1.2 million gallons of JP-1 jet fuel. NATCHEZ, Miss. – The Coast Guard is continuing to work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, and Magnolia Marine involved in the barge allision that took place at the Natchez-Vidalia U.S. 84 Bridge, near Natchez, Thursday.  Initial assessments of the damaged barge have indicated that two voids were breached in the incident, downgrading the maximum potential clarified oil discharged to approximately 200,000 gallons.... BOSTON — Two Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod members received two of military aviation’s most prestigious awards Friday during a ceremony at the air station. The Distinguished Flying Cross was presented to Petty Officer 3rd Class Evan Staph and the Air Medal was presented to Petty Officer 2nd Class Derrick P. Suba for their heroic actions in February 2015 during a lifesaving rescue mission south of Nantucket. Staph is the 144th recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross in Coast Guard history. ... NEW YORK – The U.S. Coast Guard is urging mariners and the coastal public to prepare for Winter Storm Jonas, as it is expected to heavily impact the New York area this weekend. Severe blizzard conditions are forecasted beginning late Friday afternoon through Saturday night and roughly 75 million people could to be affected by the storm.
