KODIAK, Alaska — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter SPAR returned to homeport in Kodiak on Sunday after nearly four months away.  The SPAR crew’s patrol included stops in: Juneau, for the Coast Guard 17th District Buoy Tender Roundup; Seattle, for emergency dry dock repair to the hull; and Los Angeles for a scheduled maintenance period. In addition to travelling south for repairs, the SPAR’s crew also transported three decommissioned NOAA weather buoy hulls and 140,000 of used buoy chain for recycling.... [Read More]

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Coast Guard medevaced a man Tuesday from a tug boat near Southport.

 Coast Guard Station Oak Island received a call from the tug J.P. McAllister at approximately 1:10 p.m., stating the tug’s operator was unconscious and unresponsive while mooring the 523-foot motor vessel Chembulk Barcelona at the ADM facility on the Cape Fear River near Southport.

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — A Coast Guard helicopter crew was forced to cut a training mission short after they were targeted by someone with a laser near Port Angeles Monday night.  The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was airborne when a laser was shined at them around 6:30 p.m, forcing the crew to abort the mission and return immediately to Air Station Port Angeles, where they landed safely. ... MIAMI – The Coast Guard is warning the public that pointing handheld lasers at Coast Guard aircrews is dangerous and illegal. On Monday at 8:30 p.m., a Coast Guard MH-65 helicopter with Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, Michigan, was hit with a laser while flying in the vicinity of Lake Okeechobee, Florida. Crewmembers aboard the aircraft reported the laser came from land. After a medical evaluation, there were no reported injuries associated with the incident.... [Read More]

The search for Jeffery John Reinhardt, 48, of Englewood, Florida, was suspended at 12 p.m. Monday following nearly a three day search along the Gulf coast of Florida.At 11:08 p.m., Friday, watchstanders from Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach received a call from a man reporting his father had not arrived home on time.
