Coast Guard, ADEC, Frosty Fuel stand down unified command for Cold Bay, Alaska, spill

November 13, 2015

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Coast Guard, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, and Frosty Fuel LLC stood down a unified command response to a diesel spill in Cold Bay, Tuesday.

The unified command was established Friday in response to a diesel spill at the Frosty Fuel Facility.

Frosty Fuel personnel reported a diesel spill from a transfer line and the source of the discharge was secured following the report of the incident.

Frosty Fuel has contracted the Alaska Chadux Corporation to assist in containing and cleaning up the fuel.

Clean up and response operations included sorbent boom, sorbent pads and deluging. Approximately 900 feet of boom was deployed to contain the diesel.

“Though the unified command has stood down, the Coast Guard, ADEC and Frosty Fuel will continue to work together to mitigate the effects of this spill and investigate the cause of the incident,” said Lt. Todd Bagetis, Coast Guard Sector Anchorage incident management division chief.

Frosty Fuel will continue to monitor the situation.

During the response there were no reports of injuries or impacted wildlife.

The cause of the spill is under investigation.
