Coast Guard Boating Safety Message for the 86th MLB All Star Game

July 9, 2015

CINCINNATI – The Coast Guard highly recommends boaters assess the risks associated with high water, on the Ohio River near Cincinnati, during the week of the 86th Major League Baseball All Star Game.

Higher than average water levels and large amounts of debris may create dangerous situations on the Ohio River and boaters are encouraged to take appropriate precautions. This includes always wearing a lifejacket, double-checking that required equipment such as visual and audio distress signals, personal flotation devices and a fire extinguisher are present and in working condition. As a reminder, never boat under the influence of alcohol and submit a float plan.

High water levels increase river flow, creating stronger-than-usual currents and unforeseen eddies and rips, which are particularly hazardous.
