May 31, 2016

NEW YORK – A Coast Guard Station New London rescue crew and Seatow salvage vessel assist a 36-foot vessel taking on water in Sandy Point, Stonington, Connecticut, Tuesday.

At approximately 10:38 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center received a call via VHF-Channel 16, from Seatow Eastern Connecticut, stating a vessel with four people and a dog aboard were taking on water and needed assistance.

Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, launched a Coast Guard Station New London rescue crew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat Small, and diverted a Sector Long Island Sound Trailerable Aids to Navigation Boat (TANB) to assist the distressed vessel.

Seatow arrived first on-scene and provided the distressed vessel with three pumps to assist with dewatering.

The Station New London rescue crew arrived on scene and safely transferred one adult, a child and their dog aboard the rescue boat.

Two of the boaters remained on the distress vessel and continued to dewater it with assistance from Seatow.

Seatow stabilized the distressed vessel and towed it to Dodson’s Boat Yard in Stonington.

No injuries or pollution have been reported.
