Coast Guard Cutter George Cobb to hold change of command

June 15, 2016

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A change of command ceremony is scheduled to take place at Guard Base Los Angeles-Long Beach, Thursday at 11 a.m., for the officer in charge of Coast Guard Cutter George Cobb, a 175-foot buoy tender, homeported in San Pedro.

Lt. Stephen W. Brickey will transfer command to Lt. Cody B. Dunagan, a native of Tacoma, Wash., during a change of command ceremony. The ceremony will be presided over by Capt. Jennifer F. Williams, commander, Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition, deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability of the command. The ceremony signifies the service of the units departing commanding officer and welcomes the unit’s new commanding officer.

Coast Guard Cutter George Cobb was commissioned in 2000 as the Coast Guard’s fourteenth “keeper class” coastal buoy tender. The Cobb is responsible for servicing over 178 floating aids to navigation along the California coast, including the major ports of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and San Diego. Operational control of the Cobb resides under the Coast Guard District 11 command.
