Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma assists disabled fishing vessel 70 miles east of Chatham, Massachusetts

BOSTON — Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma, homeported in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, assisted a disabled 90-foot fishing vessel approximately 70 miles east of Chatham, Massachusetts, Monday.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Monday, the fishing vessel Madison Kate notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, that they were disabled due to a turbine casualty.

Watchstanders at Sector Southeastern New England diverted the 270-foot Tahoma to the Madison Kate’s position to assist with repairs. Once on scene, it was determined repairs could not be made and the Tahoma placed the Madison Kate in tow. There are seven people aboard the fishing vessel.

Accompanied by the Coast Guard, the Madison Kate is scheduled to arrive at New Bedford, Massachusetts, at about 8 a.m., Tuesday.

There were no medical concerns reported.

In an average year, the Coast Guard assists 3,300 lives across the 1st Coast Guard District, which extends from the Canadian border to northern New Jersey.
