BUFFALO, N.Y. — The U.S. Coast Guard in Buffalo is hosting the 55th Annual Western New York Armed Forces Week celebration, which commences with an opening ceremony at Canalside Sunday, May 3, 2015.
Armed Forces week exists to honor those who have served, and the focus of the 55th Annual Western New York Armed Forces Week is to honor gold star mothers.
The opening ceremony, which is free and open to the public, begins at 12:45 p.m. The Coast Guard will showcase response capabilities with static displays, an on-water response boat demonstration, and a flyover by a Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Detroit. The 140-foot ice breaking cutter Neah Bay, homeported in Cleveland, is also scheduled to be on site for free public tours.
