Coast Guard increases security, safety patrols during Fleet Week 2016

October 6, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO — Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team San Francisco personnel conducted shoreline and ferry patrols throughout the San Francisco area Wednesday, in support of Fleet Week 2016 events.

MSST personnel perform their shore side safety and security patrols with K-9 teams trained to detect explosives, while on-water patrols are conducted using small boats to ensure the safety of the public and enforce waterway closures during scheduled Navy Blue Angels air shows and Friday's Parade of Ships.

The increased patrols by the Coast Guard and partner agencies are scheduled throughout the week as Fleet Week events continue to ensure public safety as part of the Coast Guard’s ports, waterways and coastal security mission.

Additionally, the Coast Guard is scheduled to enforce a safety zone Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for the ships participating in the Parade of ships with a variety of MSST units, small boat stations and cutters.

No vessel will be permitted to cross the parade line or interfere with the safe transit of the parade participants in any way.

A 500-yard protective zone will also be enforced around each naval vessel the entire time they are in the port.
