Coast Guard, local partners searching for missing boy

LITTLE TALBOT ISLAND, Fla. — The Coast Guard, along with crews from Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department are searching for a missing boy in the vicinity of Little Talbot Island. 

The 11-year-old black male was last seen in the water wearing black or red swim trunks. 

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center were notified of the disappearance by a good Samaritan at 1:43 p.m. The caller stated the child was swimming with several other people and did not resurface after going under the water. 

A crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Mayport was launched to the scene. A crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Ga., has also joined the search. 

Along with the Coast Guard, JSO crews aboard a boat, jet skis and a helicopter were on scene searching. Additionally, FWC crews aboard a boat and helicopter were also on scene searching. A JFRD crew aboard a boat was searching the vicinity as well.
