Coast Guard, Matagorda Sheriff searching for missing man near Sargent, Texas

September 14, 2016

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard and Matagorda County Sheriff's Department are searching for a man Wednesday, after he went missing Tuesday evening while swimming with a friend near an inlet of East Matagorda Bay.

Missing is Adareshea Taylor Williams, a 25-year-old black man who is 5-feet 11-inches tall and about 180 pounds. He has tattoos and was last seen wearing orange shorts.

The Sheriff's Department reported that a woman was swimming with Williams and lost sight of him off Caney Creek Beachfront. She was able to make it to shore on the opposite side of the inlet and called for help. Sheriffs called Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston to request assistance at about 9 p.m.

Sector watchstanders launched crews aboard an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and a Station Freeport response boat to search Tuesday night. The helicopter resumed searching at first light Wednesday and the response boat was sent back out. An Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew is scheduled to support search efforts later in the morning.

If anyone has seen Williams, or has any additional information that may assist the search effort, please contact the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center at 281-464-4854 or on the radio on VHF channel 16.
