DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a woman from a cruise ship after she began to display severe chronic abdominal pain approximately 90 nautical miles east of Daytona Beach, early Saturday morning.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville received the initial call at approximately 11:30 p.m., Friday, from the crew of the cruise ship Carnival Pride stating that a woman on board was suffering from acute pain in her stomach.

An aircrew was launched from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to assist. The aircrew hoisted the woman and transported her to Baptist Medical Center Beaches where EMS was standing by.

“We really appreciate the professionalism of the crew,” said Lt. Trent Meyers, a pilot for the medevac. “They made sure the patient was on deck and ready when we arrived on scene and gave us the support necessary to safely expedite the mission. We were experiencing some unforeseen turbulence when we got out there, so having such a competent crew on the other end of the hook greatly helped in making this mission a success.”
