July 3, 2016

MANASQUAN, N.J. – The Coast Guard medevaced a boater who was reportedly injured when a recreational vessel carrying two people ran aground near the Brielle railroad bridge Sunday afternoon.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay dispatched a 29-foot response boat-small crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet after receiving a distress call from a good Samaritan at about 12 p.m.

The RB-S crew arrived on-scene and took a woman, who was reportedly suffering a neck and head injury, to Station Manasquan Inlet, where she was transferred to emergency medical service personnel.

TowboatU.S. also responded and took a man who reportedly felt ill to Hoffman’s Marina to awaiting EMS.

A commercial salvor is developing a plan to remove the 23-foot center console boat, which does not pose a navigational hazard.

“Holiday weekends are typically a time where there are a lot of boaters on the water,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Kate Zanickrowsky. “Boaters are reminded to exercise caution on the water, keep a close eye on their speed and always wear their lifejackets.”
