ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced a man Tuesday off a cruise ship 225 miles southwest of Bermuda.
Air Station Elizabeth City Watchstanders received notification at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Monday that a 43-year-old man needed a medevac off the cruise ship Norwegian Gem. He was reported suffering symptoms of appendicitis.
Air Station Elizabeth City launched a C-130 airplane crew and MH-60 helicopter crew launched and arrived on scene at approximately 12:09 a.m. Tuesday morning. The helicopter crew hoisted the man and his wife and medevaced them to Bermuda.
The helicopter crew arrived at Bermuda at approximately 1 a.m. and transferred the patient to EMS personnel.
