KODIAK, Alaska — The Coast Guard medevaced a 45-year-old woman from the cruise ship Celebrity Solstice near Sitka, Alaska, Monday.
An Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew conducted the hoist and transferred the ailing passenger to awaiting emergency medical services in Sitka.
Coast Guard 17th District command center watchstanders in Juneau were notified of an ailing passenger by the medical team aboard the Celebrity Solstice. Watchstanders consulted the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.
“We see a lot of commercial traffic in the waters of Southeast Alaska and the safety of life at sea is a priority for the Coast Guard,” said Lt. Joseph Schlosser, command duty officer, Coast Guard 17th District. “Our operational crews are ready to respond to emergency medical situations and safely assist those in need."
Weather conditions at the time of the medevac were reported as 23 mph winds with 4-foot seas.
