WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced an injured man Saturday from a fishing boat near Hatteras Inlet.Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received a request from the 78-foot fishing boat Daniel Joseph at 10:27 a.m. Saturday to transport a 58-year-old fisherman to shore for medical treatment after he sustained injuries to his fingers while shrimping.A Coast Guard 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water crew from Station Hatteras Inlet launched at approximately 11:17 a.m.The crew arrived alongside the boat approximately two miles east of Hatteras Inlet at about 11:55 a.m and transported the man to Station Hatteras Inlet, where he was placed in the care of awaiting Dare County EMS. "We were glad to be able to get to the injured man despite shoaling in the area, which often presents a challenge," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Glenn Feenstra, coxswain for the case and officer of the day at Station Hatteras Inlet. "The 24-foot Special Purpose Craft was our best bet for reaching and transporting the fisherman due to the water depth."
