ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A man suffering a medical emergency was medevaced by the Coast Guard from a cruise ship in Tampa Bay, Florida, Saturday.
A crew member from the Vision of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg stating that a 59-year-old man was experiencing heart attack-like symptoms and was in need of emergency medical assistance.
A Coast Guard flight surgeon was notified and recommended the man be medevaced.
A 45-foot Respose Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg was launched, arrived on scene and medevaced the man. He was transported to the Station St. Petersburg where he was transferred to awaiting EMS for further medical care.
