GARIBALDI, Ore. — A Coast Guard boat crew medevaced a 28-year-old man reportedly suffering from extreme stomach pains aboard a NOAA vessel near Garibaldi, Wednesday.
A 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay safely transported the NOAA crewmember to emergency medical personnel, who transferred him from the station to Tillamook County Hospital.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a request at 5:42 a.m. from the crew of the Bell M. Shimada, a 209-foot American fisheries research ship homeported in Newport, for help transferring a crewmember reportedly suffering symptoms of potential appendicitis.
At approximately 7 a.m., the station watchstander contacted local EMS to request an ambulance, while the boat crew launched in response and later transferred the man aboard their vessel.
The weather at the time of the rescue was reported to be clear with light winds.
