Coast Guard MEDEVACS two female cruise ship passengers

NEW YORK — A Coast Guard Station New York 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew medevaced two passengers from the Norwegian Gem near the Verrazano Bridge, Tuesday. 

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York’s command center received a call via VHF-16 radio at 7:42 p.m., from the Norwegian Gem, a cruise ship, reporting an 83-year-old female passenger had a fractured femur.

A RB-M crew from Station New York was launched at approximately 9:30 p.m.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., the Norwegian Gem reported to Sector New York command center they also had a 45-year-old female passenger who was experiencing severe abdominal pain.

The RB-M crew arrived on scene at 10:00 p.m., and safely transferred both of the injured passengers and two accompanying members from the Norwegian Gem.

At 10:41 p.m., the Coast Guard RB-M crew returned to Station New York and transferred the injured passengers and the accompanying members to awaiting emergency medical services.
