Coast Guard medevacs woman near Morehead City, NC

June 6, 2016

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced a woman Sunday from a sailboat moored at Sugarloaf Island near Morehead City.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington received notification at approximately 8 p.m. from a 28-foot sailboat that a woman experiencing respiratory complications needed assistance.
Sector North Carolina diverted a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon to assist. The crew arrived on scene at 8:20 p.m.
The Coast Guard transported the woman and her husband to Big Rock Landing at the Morehead City waterfront and placed her in the care of awaiting Morehead City EMS personnel at 8:23 p.m.
The woman was reported in stable condition.
“We were already underway, which allowed us to respond quickly,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Lesandro Guzman, the Motor Lifeboat operator on the case. "We were glad to transport someone in need of care to local EMS."
