Coast Guard medically evacuates 2-year-old girl from Monhegan Island, ME

BOSTON —  Coast Guard rescue crews and a Boothbay Region Ambulance paramedic medically evacuated a 2-year-old girl from Monhegan Island, Maine at approximately 12:15 a.m. Monday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor received a request from Lincoln County Dispatch at approximatly 8:45 p.m. Sunday for assistance transporting a Lincoln County deputy and detective as well as a Boothbay Region Ambulance paramedic for a possible domestic disturbance and medical emergency involving a 2-year-old girl.

The 2-year-old was reported to be stable, but was lethargic and exhibiting flu-like symptoms. A Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew and Boothbay Region Ambulance paramedic evacuated the girl along with her father to awaiting Boothbay Region Ambulance Emergency Medical Services at Station Boothbay Harbor. 

Boothbay Region Ambulance EMS brought the girl to Miles Memorial Hospital for further medical evaluation.

"It's critical that government agencies work together up here in Maine where the weather's harsh and resources are remote," explained Lt. Scott McCann, Coast Guard Sector Northern New England command duty officer. "The Lincoln County Sheriffs and Boothbay Region Ambulance are indispensible partners who frequently help us out and last night we were able to return the favor."
