Coast Guard medically evacuates cruise ship passenger near Jacksonville, Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man aboard a cruise ship was transferred to EMS by a Coast Guard boatcrew in the vicinity of the Jacksonville jetties, after resportedly suffering symptoms of a heart attack, Friday.  

Glenn Boiling, 71, was transferred to local EMS by a Coast Guard Station Mayport boatcrew following a distress call made to Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville.

Watchstanders in the Sector Jacksonville command center were notified of the situation at 10 a.m. The captain of the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy requested a medical evacuation for Boiling. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was contacted and recommended Boiling be medevaced when the ship was closer to shore, due to concerns with his condition.

A Station Mayport boatcrew launched to meet the ship and transferred Boiling along with a nurse and a family member. Boiling was taken to shore and transferred to EMS for further evaluation.
