Coast Guard, partner agencies searching after responding to overturned vessel

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard and local partner agencies are searching for possible survivors after receiving a report of an overturned vessel near Jones Beach Inlet, Friday.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a call from a good Samaritan via marine radio Channel-16 reporting an overturned vessel near Jones Beach Inlet.

The watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched rescue boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Jones Beach.

With rescue boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Jones Beach in transit to the distressed vessel a good Samaritan arrived on scene, located and rescued one unresponsive person from the water.

The Jones Beach rescue boatcrews arrived on scene and transferred two members aboard the good Samaritan vessel. The two boatcrew members began administering CPR while the good Samaritan transited to Station Jones Beach where emergency medical services were waiting.

Coast Guard and local assets are still on scene searching for any other people who may have also been aboard the overturned vessel.

The overturned vessel was towed to Station Jones Beach by commercial salvage.

The cause of the overturned vessel is under investigation.
