HONOLULU — The Coast Guard has reopened the Port of Pago Pago following the passing of Tropical Cyclone Amos through American Samoa, Saturday.
The Captain of the Port, working with federal, territory and industry partners, verified that channels are clear, infrastructure is intact and aids to navigation are on station and working properly.
Commercial traffic and port operations may be resumed.
The Coast Guard will continue to monitor Amos and heavy weather conditions for each port will be updated as information becomes available. The Coast Guard continues to closely coordinate with local, territory and federal partner agencies and will continue to staff its Incident Management Team specifically established to manage operations during the storms.
Condition Whiskey The ALERT condition in which winds above 34 knots (39 MPH) are expected within 72 hours.
Condition X-Ray The READINESS condition in which winds above 34 knots (39 MPH) are expected within 48 hours.
Condition Yankee The WARNING condition in which winds above 34 knots (39 MPH) are expected within 24 hours.
Condition Zulu The DANGER condition in which winds above 34 knots (39 MPH) are expected within 12 hours and until the storm has passed and is no longer a threat.
Due to the forecasted track of AMOS, the COTP is advising all harbor facilities and vessels to return to Port Heavy Weather Condition - Hurricane Season Preparedness at the Port of Pago Pago. The South Pacific tropical cyclone season runs from November 1 through April 30 each year.
