Coast Guard requesting feedback on proposed anchorages along Hudson River

NEW YORK — The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking public participation in the discussion of possible additional anchorage grounds for commercial vessels on the Hudson River to promote navigational safety.Ten sites from Yonkers to Kingston have been identified as potential anchorages.

On June 9, 2016, the Coast Guard published an Advance Notice to Proposed Rulemaking in a federal registry notice found here  https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2016-06-09/pdf/2016-13701.pdf

An advance notice is a formal invitation to participate in shaping a proposed rule. Any interested individual or groupmay respond to the advance notice by submitting comments aimed at developing and improving the draft proposal or by recommending against issuing a rule.The Coast Guard identified 10 sites between Yonkers and Kingston as potential anchorages and is seeking public comment on these proposed changes. The notice provides additional information regarding the rationale for this rule, as well as with all the details on how to provide feedback."The public is encouraged to participate in this rulemaking process," said Cmdr. Ellis Moose, Chief of Prevention, Sector New York. "We are in the preliminary, exploratory phase of this process. We understand this proposedrulemaking expands beyond the maritime community and welcome feedback from local stakeholders working and living around the Hudson River."Comments on the proposal should be submitted by Sept. 7, 2016.
