ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.— The Coast Guard rescued two people after their sailboat started taking on water on the Caloosahatchee River in Cape Coral, Florida, Sunday.

At 6:58 p.m. watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a call, via VHF-FM marine radio, from a Cape Coral Sea Tow crewmember reporting a 26-foot sailboat was taking on water with two people aboard. There were no reported injuries.

At 7:10 p.m. a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, Florida, arrived on scene, began dewatering procedures and placed the sailboat in tow.

The boatcrew safely transported the people and their sailboat to Cape Coral Yacht Club. Soon after arriving, the sailboat sank at the dock. The owner is making salvage arrangements.
