WACHAPREAGUE, Va. — The Coast Guard rescued seven people from a sailboat Sunday near Wachapreague.
Coast Guard Station Wachapreague watchstanders were notified at approximately 5:30 p.m., that a family and a friend of the family were aboard a sailboat that ran aground by Hog Island.
A 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water boat crew launched from Station Wachapreague at 6 p.m. and arrived on scene 7 p.m.
The boat crew transferred all seven people from the sailboat and brought them to Wilis Warf in Great Machipongo.
"We were happy to get the family off the sail boat and back to Willis Warf safely,” said Patrick Callanan, Petty Officer 3rd Class, boat crew member for the case. "We advise all mariners to check any weather advisories along their route when getting underway.”
No injuries or pollution was reported.
