HUGER, S.C. — A mother and her infant were rescued from the roof of their flooded home by a Coast Guard air crew in Huger, S.C. Sunday.

Cristi Mueller and Kailynn Walts, her 15-month-old daughter, became stranded due to heavy rain and flooding. Both mother and child are in good condition with no injuries.

The Coast Guard was notified of the distress by the family at 6:24 a.m. They reported being stranded in their home due to severe flooding in their neighborhood.

A crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Georgia was launched to rescue the two. Mueller and her daughter were hoisted and taken to Mt. Pleasant Regional Airport.

"Me and my husband are very proud of our Coast Guard," said Mueller. "They went above and beyond and made something scary a lot less traumatic."
