Coast Guard responds to medical emergency in Boston Harbor

August 22, 2015

BOSTON — The Coast Guard medically assisted a 50 year-old male Saturday night. The passenger vessel Aurora contacted Sector Boston watchstanders at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, reporting a passenger was suffering from chest pains and needed immediate medical attention. A Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat crew from Station Boston launched with a Boston EMS paramedic aboard.  Once on scene, the crew transferred the paramedic to the Aurora and proceeded to escort the Aurora to Long Wharf Pier. There, they transferred the patient to an awaiting Boston EMS ambulance crew who took the patient to Massachusetts General Hospital for further care. He was reported to be in stable condition. "The teamwork and quick response between the Aurora crew, the EMTs, and our boat crew was seamless," said Petty Officer 1st Class Bobby Cook, a Sector Boston watchstander. He said this kind of partnership and professionalism is routine when responding to search and rescue cases in Boston Harbor.
