Coast Guard searches for surfer off “El Peñon de Mera” in Arecibo, Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard and Puerto Rico Emergency Management rescue crews are searching Tuesday for a missing surfer off the coast of Arecibo, Puerto Rico.

Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a telephone call Tuesday morning from a 911 emergency operator, who relayed a report that the surfer was last seen surfing in the vicinity of “El Peñon de Mera” and that the surfer’s board had washed up to shore.

Currently searching are:

    • Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen MH-65D Dolphin helicopter
    • Puerto Rico Emergency Management Agency rescue crews
    • Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces for Rapid Action personnel
