BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The Coast Guard is searching for a 63-year-old man when it was reported that he hadn't returned from a fishing trip and an initial search discovered his unmanned boat off Blythe Island, Georgia, Saturday.
Missing is Charles Johnson, 63.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Charleston were notified of the situation by Johnson's wife at 3 p.m., on Saturday, reporting that he hadn't returned from a fishing trip he had planned off Brunswick on Friday.
The Coast Guard launched crews aboard a 29-foot Response Boat — Small from Station Brunswick and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Savannah to assist in the search. The aircrew aboard the helicopter located Johnson's 14-foot vessel unmanned near Blythe Island Regional Park.
The Coast Guard currently leads search efforts with assistance from Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
