Coast Guard searching for missing person near Dauphin Island

MOBILE, Ala – The Coast Guard, Alabama Marine Police, and Dauphin Island Police Department are searching for a missing person near Dauphin Island, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received the report at around 11:04 p.m. Wednesday that 30-year-old Daniel Sewell had gone missing from Fort Gaines where he had planned to go swimming. Friends and relatives have not heard from Daniel since approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sector Mobile watchstanders launched a small boat crew from Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island and a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.  Alabama Marine Police have small boats searching the area while Dauphin Island Police comb the beach. 

Anyone who has had contact with Daniel Sewell since he went missing is urged to contact the Coast Guard at 251-441-6211.
