Coast Guard sets modified Port Condition Whiskey for Captain of the Port Zone Sector NC

June 6, 2016

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Coast Guard Sector North Carolina set modified Port Condition Whiskey Monday for Captain of the Port Zone Sector North Carolina, to include the ports of Wilmington, Morehead City and all inland waters, coastal inlets, and territorial seas from Little River Inlet north to the Virginia border.Tropical storm conditions are expected across coastal waters beginning Monday evening and continuing through Tuesday evening. Seas are forecast to increase to as much as 10 feet by Tuesday.Pleasure craft are advised to seek safe refuge and all vessels should use caution when transiting the area. Vessels at anchor or moorings should prepare for heavy weather accordingly and be ready to set Port Condition Whiskey in a reduced timeframe if weather conditions deteriorate.Mariners are advised that drawbridges will remain closed when wind speeds are 34 mph or greater. Because of uncertainty of weather movements and related drawbridge closures, mariners are urged to seek passage through drawbridges well in advance of gale force winds. For additional guidance contact the Sector North Carolina Command Center at 910-343-3882.For breaking news, follow the 5th District on Twitter @USCGMidAtlantic.
