NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard, state and local agencies are responding to a possible release of mercury along the Berwick waterfront Monday afternoon. Watchstanders with Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Morgan City received a report around 11 a.m., of a small amount of silver liquid, resembling mercury inside the levee wall.
Marine Safety Unit Morgan City, state and local hazardous material teams responded to the scene.
The source of the release is unknown.
