BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The crew of Coast Guard Station Brunswick hosted a change of command, Wednesday, in Brunswick.

During the ceremony, Chief Warrant Officer Rudy Radakovich transferred command to Senior Chief Petty Officer Justin Irwin, a boatswain's mate.

Senior Chief Jones is reporting from his most recent duty as the executive petty officer for Coast Guard Station Grand Isle, in Louisiana.

"I'm very honored to take over as officer-in-charge for Station Brunswick,” said Senior Chief Irwin. “I look forward to serving the people of Brunswick and the surrounding communities.”

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition that formally restates to the unit that the continuity of the command will be maintained.  It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled crew.  The ceremony marks the transfer of total responsibility, authority and accountability for the unit and the accomplishment of its assigned mission. It is conducted according to a formally prescribed ritual, to honor and maintain the traditions of the service.
