BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The crew of Coast Guard Station Brunswick hosted a change of command, Friday, in Brunswick.

During the ceremony, Senior Chief Petty Officer William G. Bennett III, a boatswains mate, transferred command to Senior Chief Petty Officer Rudy Radakovich, also a boatswains mate.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition, which formally restates that the continuity of command will be maintained. It is a formal ritual, conducted before the assembled company of the command. It conveys to the officers, enlisted personnel, civilian employees, and auxiliarists of the Coast Guard that although the authority of command is relinquished by one person and is assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.

Following the change of command, the unit hosted a retirement ceremony for Senior Chief Bennett. Originally from Haines City, Fla., Bennett served in the Coast Guard for 26 years. Throughout his career, Bennett served at units in Connecticut, Florida, New York, and Georgia. During his tenure as officer in charge at Station Brunswick, Bennet and his crew were responsible for a 3,000 square-mile area of responsibility, including 90 miles of coastline.
