Coast Guard Station rescue four from capsized boat

August 24, 2016

NEW YORK — Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station East Moriches rescued four people in distress in Moriches Inlet, Long Island, New York,Wednesday.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., crewmembers aboard a Station East Moriches 29-foot Response Boat-Small (RB-S) came upon a capsized 15-foot vessel with four people in the water, who were not wearing life jackets.

The rescue crew safely brought the four distressed boaters aboard the RB-S and brought them back to Station East Moriches with no medical concerns.

The Coast Guard urges boaters to file a float plan and always have a lifejacket on when going out on the water.

A float plan is simply letting family and friends know where you are going and your expected time of return. File a float plan with someone who is not getting underway with you, and stick to the plan. A float plan assists responders in the search of an overdue boater who may be in distress.
