NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard suspended its search for a reported jet skier struck by lightning near Fort Morgan, Alabama, Monday afternoon.
Coast Guard crews from Station Dauphin Island, the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Stingray and Aviation Training Center Mobile, along with rescue crews from Alabama Marine Police and the Fort Morgan Beach Fire Department searched more than 815 square-miles for the reported jet skier with no results.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a call from the Baldwin County 911 at approximately 3:40 p.m. Sunday, stating a jet skier was reportedly struck by lightning and then dragged behind the Jet Ski. The watchstanders directed the launch of Coast Guard rescue crews.
No reports of missing or overdue boaters have been received and search efforts have been suspended pending further developments.
