October 26, 2015

LOS ANGELES – The Coast Guard evacuated three individuals after their vessel lost power and capsized near Skunk Point on Santa Rosa Island, Monday.

Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received notification at 4:30 a.m., that the 50-foot commercial vessel, Angels Gate, ran aground.

A Good Samaritan aboard the fishing vessel, Pacific Knight, arrived on scene and launched a small skiff with three individuals aboard to assist the vessel Angels Gate. During transit to the Angels Gate, the skiff lost power and capsized into the 4 to 6-foot surf.

All three individuals were transported from Santa Rosa Island to Santa Barbara Airport for further evaluation by EMS. No injuries were reported.

The contracted commercial salvage company, Vessel Assist responded to Angels Gate in an effort to refloat the vessel and the small skiff.

A Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat - Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor along with members of the Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Santa Barbara are on scene closely monitoring the situation.  There are no reports of pollution at this time.
