CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coast Guard Capt. Richard “Tony” Hahn relieved Capt. Samuel Creech as commanding officer of Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi during a change of command ceremony, Friday.
Hahn was previously stationed in Washington, D.C., as the chief of public affairs at Coast Guard Headquarters.
Upon relief, Creech retired from the Coast Guard and will move to Colorado with his family.
A change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition, which formally restates to the officers and crew of a unit, the continuity and authority of command and is unique in the world today. It involves the total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.
Rear Adm. David Callahan, commander of the Coast Guard’s 8th District, presided over the ceremony.
The Sector Corpus Christi Headquarters, command center, and flight operations are located aboard Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. On average, Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi personnel annually save 83 lives, assist 591 people in distress, and preserve over $3 million in property. Our Law Enforcement crews last year seized over 10,000 pounds of drugs and captured 22 illegal smuggling vessels. Our Prevention crews maintained 1,300 aids to navigation, managed the safe arrival of 8500 commercial vessels (a four-fold increase since 2012), conducted 900 facility exams, investigated 230 marine incidents, and performed 375 inspections of commercial vessels and off-shore oil-platforms.
